The Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity jury holds its in-person meetings in Cairo

The jury of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity will hold its in-person meetings in Cairo and Rome this week, to discuss the files of candidates from more than 76 countries around the world in preparation for selecting the award’s honoree in its seventh session in 2026.

The members of the jury are scheduled to meet with His Eminence the Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders in Cairo, this week on the agenda of the in-person meetings.

It comes on the agenda of the in-person meetings. The two cities were chosen to hold the Committee’s meetings this year, within the framework of the annual tradition during which the Committee holds its meetings in one or more cities in the world, and because they carry profound historical symbolism in the path of human brotherhood. Between Cairo, with its ancient civilization and human heritage, and Rome, with its global human and spiritual heritage, the journey of human brotherhood began that brought together His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, and the late Pope Francis, former Pope of the Catholic Church, before it culminated in the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi in 2019, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, “may God protect him.”

The direct in-person meetings of the jury composed of independent international experts reflect the award’s keenness to consolidate its presence The committee is scheduled to discuss during its meetings the nominations received from various parts of the world, which include leading institutions and figures in the fields of peace, humanitarian work, education, and promoting coexistence between cultures and religions, in preparation for selecting the winner of the award in its seventh session, which has become a prestigious global platform for honoring inspiring initiatives in spreading the values of human brotherhood and promoting Solidarity among human beings.

The Zayed Prize for Universal Human Fraternity bears the name of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, in honor of his great humanitarian legacy and his role in promoting the values of tolerance and cooperation among peoples. The award honors individuals and entities that contribute to spreading and strengthening the values of human brotherhood and solidarity around the world.

Since its inception, the award has honored a number of influential figures and organizations in the process of human brotherhood, Among them: His Eminence the Grand Imam Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar (honorary laureate), the late Pope Francis, former Pope of the Catholic Church (honorary laureate), Egyptian Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, world-class heart surgeon, Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and his wife, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, and Her Excellency Mia Amor. Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, the World Central Kitchen organization, and the young Ethiopian-American innovator Heman Bekele.
