Suhail Al Mazrouei: The global demand for energy is witnessing steady growth to meet the needs of artificial intelligence

Abu Dhabi, December 16 / WAM / His Excellency Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, confirmed that the global demand for energy is witnessing steady growth to meet the needs of artificial intelligence and large data centers, anticipating an increase in demand for all energy resources, including fossil fuels that are part of the energy mix, stressing the UAE’s readiness to contribute to meeting global demand by enhancing investments in the energy sector.

His Excellency said in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the sidelines of the activities of the third edition of the Emirates Energy Forum 2025, that the launch of the sixth edition of the State of Energy Report in the UAE monitors the true picture of the energy transition in the country, as the production capacity of clean energy in the UAE exceeded 12.4 gigawatts, including 6.8 gigawatts of renewable energy and 5.6 gigawatts of peaceful nuclear energy, indicating that the targets for the production capacity of renewable energy reach 22 gigawatts by 2031. Which represents more than 35% of the country’s energy mix.

He added that the country is looking forward to attracting more new investments in the renewable energy sector, in line with the global changes taking place in the sector, and in light of the increasing global demand for the energy mix, as the UAE has achieved by the end of 2024 about 90% of its investment plan in the field of renewable energy, which amounts to 200 billion dirhams by 2030.

His Excellency indicated that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure continues to work to take advantage of modern technologies and artificial intelligence to raise the efficiency of energy use and reduce consumption in government buildings, as projects have been launched aimed at reducing consumption by up to 30% of water and electricity.

He said that, in line with the directives of the wise leadership, we have an ambitious plan to supply large data centers with renewable electrical energy, while working to achieve a professional and sustainable balance in energy demand in a way that enhances the UAE’s position as an attractive global platform for large data centers that need renewable energy at competitive prices, pointing to the project to convert solar energy into electricity around the clock to feed the largest huge data center in the region, which is in addition to the UAE’s contribution to the clean energy sector.

His Excellency added that the UAE realized early on the importance of the electronic chip industry through its leading companies around the world, pointing out that whoever owns this industry can effectively participate in shaping the world’s future in artificial intelligence, as the UAE is one of the main countries that have invested in advanced technologies that require more energy as well as capabilities that enhance the country’s leadership in this vital field.
