Saint-Germain was ordered to pay 59.6 million euros to Mbappe in unpaid bonuses and salaries

Paris Saint-Germain, the French League and Champions League champions, was ordered by a labor court on Tuesday to pay 59.2 million euros to former player Kylian Mbappe in unpaid bonuses and salaries.

The French national team captain, who left Saint-Germain in June 2024 to join Spanish club Real Madrid, had demanded more than 260 million euros from the Parisian club, while the latter demanded that the player pay 440 million euros, based on the failure of his transfer deal to the Saudi club Al-Hilal worth 300 million euros, which the player rejected.

The Labor Court completely rejected the club’s claims relating in particular to breach of the duty of loyalty in the implementation of contractual relations.

Mbappe (26 years old) filed a complaint last June about the way he was treated by the club at the beginning of the 2024 season.

Mbappé believes that he was marginalized by the club, and was forced to train with players that the club seeks to get rid of, after he refused to sign a new contract, a practice that also affected other players, which prompted the French Players Association to file a complaint last year.

Mbappe was not invited to participate in Saint-Germain’s preparatory tour of Asia in 2023, and he missed the first match of the season, but he later returned to the team after talks with the club.

Mbappe also claimed that the Parisian club applied an incorrect French legal classification to his contract, but the Labor Court rejected this in its ruling issued on Tuesday.

When asked about the possibility of an appeal, Saint-Germain’s lawyers declined to comment.

On the other hand, Mbappe’s lawyers said in a statement, “Mr. Kylian Mbappe’s advisors take note with satisfaction of the decision issued today by the Labor Court Board,” which consists of two representatives of employers and two representatives of employees.

“This ruling confirms that agreed obligations must be respected. It reiterates a simple truth: even in the professional football industry, labor law applies to everyone,” they added.

After seven seasons with Paris Saint-Germain, he joined Real Madrid on a free transfer last summer, where he receives an annual salary estimated at 30 million euros.

Mbappe scored 256 goals in 308 matches with Saint-Germain, but the club won the Champions League for the first time last season after his departure.

Mbappe was the one who resorted to the labor court after he tried in vain before sports bodies to obtain 55 million euros in unpaid salaries and bonuses when his contract expired in the summer of 2024.
