The United States approves possible military sales to Lebanon

The US State Department announced its approval of a potential military deal with the Lebanese government, which includes supplying it with M1151A1 Humvee armored vehicles and related equipment, at an estimated cost of $34.5 million, within the framework of the Foreign Military Sales program. The deal. 

 

According to the statement, the Lebanese government requested the purchase of 90 additional M1151A1 armored vehicles, in addition to a previous deal that was under implementation, and did not require approval from Congress because it was limited. 

 

The original deal, which amounted to $12.26 million (of which $10.85 million was defense equipment). Main), which included 50 Humvee armored vehicles, bringing the total number of armored vehicles in the two deals to 140 armored vehicles. With it. 

 

The statement stressed that this deal comes within the framework of supporting the foreign policy and national security of the United States, by strengthening the capabilities of a partner country that is an important factor in political and economic stability in the Middle East region. 

 

He explained that these mechanisms will provide the Lebanese Armed Forces with a high ability to move and deploy quickly, enabling them to confront security threats and protect the environment, in addition to supporting anti-terrorism operations, The deal will also contribute to enhancing military cooperation and operational training between the US and Lebanese armies, while emphasizing Lebanon’s ability to absorb this equipment and services without difficulties.  

 

The statement confirmed that the financial values mentioned represent the maximum estimate, and that the actual cost may be less depending on the final requirements, the availability of the budget, and the signing of official agreements.
