Zelensky praises the progress of the negotiations
On Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised progress in the negotiations, following meetings in Berlin with American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The Europeans supporting Kiev put forward a parallel proposal that includes deploying a multinational force in Ukraine, providing guarantees to Kiev similar to those stipulated in Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, in addition to a Ukrainian army of 800,000 soldiers.
All of these elements are considered unacceptable to Moscow, which it has previously rejected in the past.
Details of the plan are unknown
The details of the American plan, after being reformulated with The Ukrainians are unknown, but Zelensky had indicated that he noticed Kiev giving up parts of its territory.
The original American document was prepared by Kiev and the Europeans and was largely biased towards the Kremlin’s positions.
A European diplomatic source in Kiev confirmed on Tuesday to Agence France-Presse that the European Union’s current bet is to separate the United States from Russian positions.
