Muhammad Al-Murr: The Arabic language is the engine of human civilization throughout the ages


Dubai, December 17, 2017 – His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, said that since the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, we have placed at the forefront of our priorities and strategy the empowerment of the Arabic language, by preserving Arab literature, culture and heritage, and enhancing the presence of the Arabic language in various fields of knowledge and arts, by encouraging writers, literary figures and creators to enrich intellectual production in the Arabic language and its translation. Al-Murr added in a statement on the occasion of International Arabic Language Day: We were keen to launch several inspiring initiatives to achieve this vision, including the institutional arm for publishing and translation from various international languages into Arabic, and the “A World in Your Language” initiative, which allows visitors to read and listen to books in several international languages, including Arabic, in addition to organizing the Mohammed bin Rashid Award for the Arabic Language, in a way that supports the sustainability of the Arab heritage and ensures the continuity of its cultural and cognitive role in the present and future of the nation.”
He continued: We celebrate a legacy rich in wisdom and beauty, a language that was not limited to being a means of communication, but rather was the engine of human civilization throughout the ages, and contributed to the transfer of knowledge, the development of science and philosophy, and the building of a cultural system that enriched the world. It also played a pivotal role in documenting history, promoting human values, enriching human thought, and building bridges of cultural exchange between nations.
His Excellency Muhammad Al-Murr called for expanding cooperation between government and private institutions, libraries, cultural centers, and universities, to enhance the presence of the Arabic language in all cultural, educational, and media fields, in a way that supports national strategies in transferring knowledge to new generations.
