Cosmin is a coach for clubs, not teams. His experience did not help him in the Arab Cup

Athletes and analysts identified technical problems in the national team, revealed by its recent participation in the Arab Cup Championship, which concluded in Doha the day before yesterday, and the Moroccan team was crowned champion after winning the final match over its Jordanian counterpart 3-2 after two additional periods (regular time 2-2).

They told “Emirates Today”: “The experience of the Romanian national team coach, Olario Cosmin, in training national teams did not help him keep up with the coaches of the tournament,” stressing that “the national team suffers from instability in the formation between one match and another, in addition to the absence of the outright striker, as with the exception of Sultan Adel, the rest of the players who participated in the front line were not in this primary position, and the method of play adopted by Cosmin is purely defensive, and does not suit the style of modern football that relies on… Balance between defense and attack.

They explained: “Although Cosmin is a great coach and has achieved many achievements with the clubs he has supervised, he lacks experience in coaching national teams, as this is the first time he has coached a national team, compared to the coaches of other teams participating in the tournament.”

The team won third place in the tournament, shared with Saudi Green, after their meeting in the second half was canceled due to weather conditions. The athletes pointed out that what the team achieved in the Arab Cup reflects the current potential of its players.

Instability and harmony

A former member of the Football Association’s Board of Directors, sports analyst Dr. Salim Al Shamsi, said, “The Arab Cup revealed that the team lacks many technical aspects, including the lack of stability and harmony required between the players, and the lack of stability in the formation, as the team played each match with a different formation from the other, as evidenced by the fact that during the past six months, there were three or four new players entering the team’s roster,” stressing that “the Football Association did not fall short and provided all the requirements that the team needed.”

Al Shamsi added: “Although the national team coach had many options for players, what was achieved was not up to the ambition.”

He concluded: “Kuzmin is a great coach, but his experience was limited to coaching clubs and not national teams, and there is a big difference between coaching the national team and coaching the club, so I do not support his presence as the national team coach, due to his lack of experience in coaching national teams.”

Winning mentality

In turn, national coach and technical analyst Rashid Amer said: “The team includes good elements of players, but it needs stability, both at the level of the technical staff and the players, especially since most of the current elements are new.” He pointed out that “the national team lacks a winning mentality, and is missing an outspoken striker who knows his way to the net, in addition to its need to strengthen its ranks, especially in the back line.”

Amer stressed his optimism about the future, stressing that “the team needs time and patience for the current efforts to bear the desired results.”

He stressed “the importance of giving Kuzmin the opportunity to continue with the national team and complete his contract, stressing that despite being one of the coaches who has achieved the most championships with clubs, coaching national teams is different,” considering that “this is the first time that Kuzmin is directly leading a national team.”

Modern football

In turn, the former international player and former team supervisor, Dr. Hassan Suhail, described the tournament as “successful,” calling on the team’s coach, Kuzmin, to break free from the purely defensive plan he adopts, as it is not compatible with modern football, which is based on a balance between defense and attack.

Suhail said: “I believe that the team has presented an advanced technical level during the recent period.”

Hassan Suhail described the third place achieved by the team as well-deserved compared to what it presented, but it is more of an honor than an achievement.

He concluded: “We must work to build a strong team through a well-thought-out plan, based on selecting the best elements capable of representing the team.”
