The UAE and UNHCR support relief efforts for those affected by the Sudan conflict

The Emirates International Aid Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, with the aim of supporting the delivery of urgent humanitarian and relief aid to the Sudanese people affected by the repercussions of the ongoing conflict in the country.

According to the agreement that was signed, the agency will provide a grant worth 15 million US dollars, allocated to implement the “Protection and Assistance for People Affected by the Conflict in Sudan” project, which is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026 and continue until the end of next year.

The project aims to strengthen humanitarian response efforts for those displaced and affected by the conflict in Sudan by providing life-saving measures that include protection, shelter, health care, in addition to supporting education.

In the presence of the President of the Emirates International Aid Agency, Dr. Tariq Al Ameri, the agreement was signed by the Executive Director of Logistics Support at the Emirates International Aid Agency, Rashid Al Shamsi, and the Senior Advisor and Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, Dr. Khaled Khalifa.

Dr. Al Ameri stressed, in a statement on this occasion, that this agreement comes within the framework of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict, noting that the country has so far allocated about 784 million US dollars in emergency humanitarian and relief aid to support the Sudanese people.

He said: “The UAE will continue its role at the forefront of international efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of our brothers in Sudan, based on its moral and humanitarian responsibility to stand by those affected by conflicts and natural disasters, following the approach of the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and the directives of the wise leadership.”

The UAE’s efforts focus primarily on humanitarian aspects, which reflects the country’s firm commitment to providing relief support to the Sudanese people, as it provided 4.24 billion US dollars to Sudan during the past decade (2015-2025), while since the outbreak of the current crisis more than two and a half years ago, it has allocated 784 million dollars in humanitarian aid.

The UAE is the second country after the United States to provide aid to Sudan since the beginning of the conflict, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

The UAE affirms its firm and permanent commitment to supporting the efforts made to address this catastrophic crisis, and to working collectively with regional and international partners, especially in Africa, to ensure stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people, as an expression of the values of human solidarity established in the leadership and people of the UAE.
