Al Ain, December 23 / WAM / During the period from January to December 2025, Al Ain Zoo witnessed the birth of approximately 390 animals, 65% of which constitute endangered species, in an indicator that reflects the success of breeding programs and the park’s efforts to preserve wildlife and preserve biodiversity.
The list of births included the lentil oryx, the checker gazelle, the African Dorcas gazelle, the African tortoise, the Barbary sheep, the Arabian gazelle, the sand gazelle, and the Arabian tahr, in addition to the Arabian oryx, the black oryx, the impala, the Chadian checker gazelle, the Greek tortoise, the hippopotamus, the foal gazelle, the Nile antelope, the oryx, and the Spikes gazelle.
The care teams at the park are making continuous efforts to provide appropriate environmental conditions for these species, by providing balanced feeding programs, careful health follow-up, and applying the latest scientific practices to ensure the safety of mothers and their young and enhance their chances of survival.
During the year 2025, the zoo also recorded data on 18 species from various species, through the “ZIMES” global program, which specializes in documenting and managing animal data in international zoos.
Reem Ahmed Al Kaabi, animal registration employee at the park, confirmed that the park adopted the “ZIMS” system because it provides accurate and comprehensive data, including identifying and classifying species, documenting their daily behavior, and recording feed and operational records.
She added that the data is saved and shared with other zoos, which contributes to facilitating follow-up processes between the relevant institutions and enhancing international coordination to support wildlife conservation efforts.
“ZIMES” is a specialized platform designed to serve registrants, breeders, and animal care workers, and more than 1,200 globally recognized zoos participate in it, making it one of the most important global documentation systems in this field.
