Sharjah launches the first international marine rescue championship in the country

Sharjah, December 23 / WAM / The Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, in cooperation with Al Sharqiya Channel from Kalba, is organizing the activities of the third edition of the Khor Fakkan Marine Festival, which will be held from December 26 until next January 4. The Sharjah International Marine Sports Championship, which is the first of its kind in the country and under the umbrella of the International Rescue Federation.
This tournament comes within the framework of efforts aimed at establishing an official and professional environment for the sport of marine rescue, which contributes to strengthening the safety and rescue system on the UAE coasts, in addition to discovering and refining national talents and qualifying them to represent the UAE in regional and international forums.
The tournament aims to prepare cadres capable of participating in upcoming world championships, most notably the World Marine Rescue Championship scheduled to be held in South Africa in December 2026, in addition to preparing to participate in the 2032 Olympic Games – Australia, where the sport of rescue will be included for the first time in the Olympic program.
In the context of supporting the tournament and raising the efficiency of technical cadres, the International Rescue Federation is organizing, in conjunction with the events, a course to prepare referees for the sport of rescue on December 26 and 27 of this year, in an achievement that is recorded as the first official course of its kind in the UAE, in addition to organizing a specialized course to prepare trainers in a way that enhances the readiness of national cadres in accordance with the highest international standards.
This step confirms the keenness of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club and its partners to develop specialized marine sports and consolidate the position of the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE as a regional and international center for organizing internationally accredited specific tournaments.
Ahmed Issa Al Hosani, Director General of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, said that the Sharjah International Marine Sports Championship represents an important milestone in the development of specialized marine sports in the Emirates, as it is the first of its kind in the country and is held under the umbrella of the International Rescue Federation. Through this tournament, we seek to establish a professional environment that enhances the maritime rescue and safety system and contributes to the discovery and qualification of national competencies capable of representing the Emirates in international forums.
He added: The club attaches great importance to the qualification of technical cadres, including referees, coaches and athletes, in accordance with the highest international standards, in order to support the readiness of marine rescue teams and enhance the country’s presence in world championships.
