The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi and the Tokyo National Museum sign a memorandum of understanding

ABU DHABI, December 25 / WAM / The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and the Tokyo National Museum signed a memorandum of understanding extending over a period of five years to enhance cultural cooperation in the fields of research, education and professional development within the museum sector.

His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, witnessed the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding, while it was signed by His Excellency Saud Abdul Aziz Al Hosani, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and Makoto Fujiwara, Executive Director of the National Museum in Tokyo.

The memorandum of understanding contributes to laying the foundations for supporting integrated cultural exchange, providing new opportunities for joint learning, developing valuable experiences in the field of museum work, and opening broad horizons for organizing exhibitions and joint programs that contribute to deepening the bonds of cultural understanding between the United Arab Emirates and Japan.

His Excellency Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak said that the memorandum of understanding with the National Museum in Tokyo reflects our continuing efforts to enhance cultural and museum cooperation and consolidate bridges of cooperation between Abu Dhabi and Japan.

He added that this new pivotal station embodies our joint commitment to deepening mutual understanding and exchanging experiences and knowledge in the fields of research, education and museum work. Through this partnership, we seek to build solid relationships between our institutions and our peoples, affirming the role of culture as a bridge that connects nations and inspires future generations.

For his part, Makoto Fujiwara said: We are pleased to cooperate with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, in a way that contributes to the exchange of experiences to support efforts to enrich the global cultural scene, and to provide new visions for cultural and human creativity in the museum sector, as we will continue to introduce the Japanese and Emirati public to the ancient Japanese and Emirati traditions through joint exhibitions that display works of art and heritage from the cultures of both countries.

Under the memorandum, the two sides will cooperate in studying and preserving cultural and heritage materials, including opportunities for mutual lending of works and collectibles.

The memorandum also stipulates the organization of training and professional exchange programs aimed at developing the skills of workers in the museum sector and enhancing opportunities for continuous learning and cooperation between the two institutions.

The memorandum will pave the way for launching joint initiatives that include organizing exhibitions, educational programs and cultural workshops in Abu Dhabi, in a way that enhances dialogue and community interaction and contributes to spreading cultural knowledge on a broader scale.

This partnership reflects the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi’s commitment to strengthening international cultural relations and enhancing the emirate’s position as a global center for cultural cooperation, in addition to its deep belief in the importance of exchanging knowledge and best practices between museums around the world.
