المملكة: Release of 61 rare fungal organisms in King Khalid Reserve to enhance biodiversity


The National Center for the Development of Wildlife, in cooperation with the Imam Abdulaziz bin Muhammad Royal Reserve Development Authority, launched a qualitative environmental program, which represented the resettlement of 61 endangered wildlife species in the King Khalid Royal Reserve, in a strategic step aimed at enriching biodiversity, restoring environmental balance, and promoting the concepts of sustainability and ecotourism, in line with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

The launch included a diverse package of The rare wildlife creatures, which included 10 Arabian oryx, 34 sand antelope, and 7 antelope, in addition to 10 wild rabbits, so that these creatures return to exercising their natural role in their original environment and contribute to the restoration of deteriorating ecosystems.

This launch comes as an extension of a series of programs implemented by the National Center for Wildlife Development to raise the levels of biodiversity in protected areas, where Select organisms with great care to ensure their adaptation and stability in natural habitats, which creates an attractive and sustainable environment.

Dr. Muhammad Ali Qurban, CEO of the center, explained that this initiative is being implemented in accordance with the most accurate international standards and approved practices, noting that the center relies on the latest technologies to monitor and track fungal populations after their release, and collect scientific data to understand the challenges and possibilities that ensure their survival and reproduction.
