By presidential decree, Equatorial Guinea changes its capital for strategic reasons

Changed officially has its capital from Malabo to Ciudad de la Paz, according to a presidential decree issued on Saturday.

President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo had announced in 2008 his intention to change To Ciudad de la Paz, whose name means "City of peace"

For strategic reasons

Mbasogo, who has ruled the country for 47 years, said that the decision to move the capital to the mainland was taken for strategic reasons, justifying his decision by the geographical location of the city. He described Ciudad de la Paz as"The perfect choice to embrace the capital"

Another reason for this decision is the rapid urban growth in Malabo and the economic capital that has begun in recent years, driven by the movement of exodus from rural areas, according to what was stated in the presidential decree.

The decree stated that the presidential services, constitutional bodies, government agencies and public companies will take the necessary measures to move their headquarters to the new capital within a year.
