Mohamed Salah is the first player to score for 11 African Cup teams

Egypt’s captain, Mohamed Salah, set a record in the African Cup of Nations by scoring against 11 different teams in the continental tournament, after he scored against Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals today, Saturday. Liverpool’s top scorer, Salah, made it 3-1 in the 52nd minute, before Gila Douai scored the second goal for Ivory Coast.

The Egyptian captain broke up his partnership with Andre Ayew, Ghana’s winger, Samuel Eto’o, former Cameroon top scorer, and Didier Drogba, former Ivory Coast captain, who scored against 10 different teams.

He previously scored against Ghana and Burkina Faso in the 2017 Cup of Nations, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda in 2019, Guinea Bissau and Morocco in the 2021 edition, and against Mozambique in the last tournament before scoring against Zimbabwe, South Africa and Benin in the current tournament.

Salah raised his number of goals in the history of the tournament to 11 goals, equal to his current coach Hossam Hassan, to be one goal away from equaling the record of Egypt’s all-time top scorer in the tournament, Hassan El Shazly.

The Opta Statistics Network reported that Salah is the player who has scored the most goals in the Nations Cup since his first appearance in 2017.

Egypt will play against Senegal in the semi-finals, in a replay of the 2021 edition final, on Wednesday, while Morocco, the host of the tournament, will face its rival, Nigeria, in order to reach the final.
