According to the rewards system approved by FIFA, the British newspaper “Daily Mail” revealed remarkable numbers that the referees of the 2026 World Cup will receive, making managing matches, especially the final, one of the highest-paid refereeing tasks in the world of football.

The referee of the final match will receive approximately $80,000 as a minimum, distributed between $10,000 for managing the final, and $70,000 as a basic reward for participating in the tournament, a number that can rise significantly with additional incentives.

The profits do not stop there, as referees receive additional sums for each match they officiate, as the referee receives about $3,000 in the group stage, and it rises to $10,000 in the knockout rounds, which opens the door to the referee’s total income exceeding the barrier of $100,000 if he reaches the final match and officiates several matches during the tournament.

As for the assistant referees and video technology referees (VARThey receive about $2,500 for group matches and $5,000 for the knockout rounds, in addition to $5,000 for participating in the final, in addition to other benefits that include training equipment and special gifts.

These numbers confirm that refereeing in the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is no longer just a sporting task, but rather a great financial opportunity for the best referees in the world.

Managing the final match remains the biggest dream of any referee, as this task is given only to the elite, as happened with Pierluigi Collina and Horacio Elizondo, as well as Saeed Belkoula, who made history as the first Arab and African referee to lead the final.
