المملكة: "He walked" A competition is being launched to manufacture 10 new passenger trains for the northern network


Declared Railwaysin the Kingdom, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics and the aspirations of Saudi Vision 2030, by increasing the operational capacity of passenger trains and improving the quality and efficiency of services provided to beneficiaries.

Saar indicated that the competition includes designing, manufacturing and supplying New passenger trains, in addition to providing maintenance services for the fleet, which contributes to raising operational readiness and ensuring the sustainability of assets in the long term, provided that the last date for submitting bids is May 11, 2026 AD, in accordance with the regulatory procedures approved for the competitions.

In this context, the CEO of Saudi Railways, Dr. Bashar bin Khaled Al-Malik, explained that the expansion of the passenger fleet is a strategic goal and an important step within the company’s plans to develop its services for the passenger sector.

Raise Operational Capacity

The owner confirmed that the entry of the new trains into service will contribute to meeting the growing demand for passenger trips by raising the operational capacity of the Shamal Line to nearly three times the current capacity, to reach more than 2.4 million seats annually, which enhances SAR’s ability to meet the growing demand for transport services between cities.

The new trains will operate on the Shamal Network, which extends for a distance of approximately 2,700 kilometers, and connects a number of major cities, including Riyadh, Al Majmaah, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, and Qurayyat, with expansion in the coming years by adding new stations, such as Al-Zulfi station.

This competition comes as an extension of SAR’s approach to the gradual and continuous modernization of the passenger train fleet on its various networks, as ten new trains are also currently being manufactured to serve the East Line, as part of its comprehensive plans to develop passenger transportation services, raise operating efficiency, and enhance service reliability across the national railway network.
