The first Dubai Green Artificial Intelligence Conference kicks off

DUBAI, 24 JANUARY / WAM / The activities of the first Dubai Green Artificial Intelligence Conference and the accompanying exhibition were launched today, under the patronage of His Excellency Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, and organized by the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment in cooperation with the Dubai Police Academy and the Australian Curtin University, at the Dubai Police Academy.
Dr. Mohammed Ahmed bin Fahd, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zayed International Foundation for the Environment, stressed that the conference represents a unique gathering of its kind, as it brings together a diverse fabric of expertise, including environmental scientists, artificial intelligence researchers and developers, city planners, sustainability officials, green technology innovators, educators and students, in addition to actors in civil society, indicating that this multidisciplinary approach is essential for understanding complex challenges and formulating comprehensive solutions to them.
He added that unifying knowledge and joint efforts is capable of making a tangible difference, and this is the approach that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, was keen on, stressing that the Zayed International Foundation for the Environment has been, for decades and still is, at the forefront of those seeking to create a sustainable environmental future in line with the state’s directions, and to this end it organized more than 100 conferences and initiatives to raise awareness and promote sustainable practices.
He pointed out that the conference highlights artificial intelligence technology as one of the latest tools for creating the future, explaining that the conference slogan, “Harnessing technology to achieve environmental sustainability,” reflects a vision that considers artificial intelligence not just a tool for technical progress, but rather a supportive ally in building a greener and more resilient world, in line with Sheikh Zayed’s vision and national sustainability standards.
The opening session witnessed two main presentations, the first presented by Dr. Anwar Fath al-Rahman Dafallah, a researcher in the field of artificial intelligence, data privacy and cybersecurity. He stressed that confronting the challenges of artificial intelligence misinformation is not achieved with technical tools alone, but rather by building a generation that possesses critical thinking, the scientific method, and a comprehensive view of environmental education.
The second presentation – presented by Professor Chethir E. Bon Sylvain, Director of Research and Head of the Department of Science and Engineering at Curtin University Dubai – addressed contemporary environmental challenges and the role of green artificial intelligence in providing innovative solutions that contribute to driving impactful change.
The first day of the conference witnessed the honoring of the sponsors, in addition to organizing an accompanying exhibition that reviewed the best practices in employing artificial intelligence in the fields of environment and sustainability, in addition to presenting projects by students from various universities on the uses of artificial intelligence in sustainable environmental applications, with the aim of motivating the emerging generations to keep pace with the rapid developments in this field.
