In the Year of the Family…the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation creates the Supportive Family Award

ABU DHABI, 3 February, 2017 (WAM) – The Emirates Jiu-Jitsu Federation announced the launch of the “Supportive Family Award” as a new category within the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Award, coinciding with the “Year of the Family,” and emphasizing the pivotal position that the family has in the career of male and female players throughout the sports season.

The award highlights families that played an active role that went beyond encouragement from the stands, to turn into daily and continuous support that contributed to providing the best supportive environment for their sons and daughters to raise their level of commitment and discipline and hone their skills.

The addition of the “Supportive Family Award” to the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Award system confirms that the family’s presence in tournaments is no longer a normal sight, but rather has become an integral element in the creation of champions, and an added value to the players’ career.

In light of this initiative, families whose presence and participation in tournaments and training programs are a model of effective support are selected to be honored during the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Award ceremony, which is the largest and most prestigious in the world, in recognition of their contribution to the career of their sons and daughters.

Fahd Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Emirati and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, said: In light of our constant pursuit of excellence and the federation’s sustainable initiatives, and based on our conviction that our sport is based on values, and the most important of these values begin with the family, we were keen to add the “Supportive Family Award” to the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Award, in recognition of the real role that families play in creating champions on the one hand, and to celebrate the Year of the Family on the other hand.

He added: We believe that the presence of the family in tournaments not only affects the morale of the players, but also contributes to establishing stability, confidence and discipline in them, which is directly reflected in their performance in competitions. Hence this award came to honor this influential role and highlight it as an integral part of the sports work system in the federation.

The “Supportive Family Award” is linked to a system of accompanying initiatives that the Federation activates in its tournaments throughout the season, as these tournaments are used as interactive platforms that bring together family members on one platform through accompanying family activities, programs directed at children, and community and cultural partnerships, in addition to activating media and communication channels to highlight the family’s presence as an essential part of the sports scene.
