China’s foreign exchange reserves rise to $3.39 trillion

China’s total foreign exchange reserves rose to $3.3991 trillion at the end of January 2026, an increase of $41.2 billion, or 1.23%, compared to the end of December last year.
The National Foreign Exchange Authority of China explained that the US dollar index fell last January, while the prices of major global financial assets rose in general, affected by financial and monetary policies and market expectations in major economies.
She indicated that the combined effects of exchange rate fluctuations and asset price changes contributed to the increase in foreign exchange reserves in China during the month of January.
