Sharjah Heritage Days.. a global platform for civilizational dialogue and integrated cultural experiences

Sharjah, 8 February / WAM / Sharjah Heritage Days, in its twenty-third session, continues to consolidate its position as a cultural event that combines thought, heritage and lived experience through a rich program of specialized seminars, interactive activities and qualitative initiatives that reflect Sharjah’s vision of building bridges of dialogue between civilizations and enhancing the presence of culture as a way of life.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Muslim, President of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, confirmed that choosing the Republic of Portugal as a guest of honor for the current session came in compliance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which confirms that the guests of honor are presented in a cultural and civilizational manner befitting their status and enhancing the values ​​of convergence and understanding between peoples.

He explained that this trend was translated into practice by dedicating an integrated pavilion to Portugal, in addition to highlighting the tangible and intangible cultural heritage and organizing specialized sessions and seminars that highlighted the Portuguese experience and its historical relations with the region.

In this context, Bait Al Naboodah hosted a symposium entitled “The Portuguese Presence in the United Arab Emirates” within the activities of the Cultural Café, with the participation of an elite group of researchers and specialists who discussed the history of cultural relations and knowledge exchange between the Emirates and Portugal and the Arab presence in Portugal, which extends for about five centuries as an important basis for a deeper understanding of civilizational relations.

Dr. Al-Musallam praised the scientific papers presented, especially the contributions of Dr. Anna Lee, Director General of the Portuguese Cultural Heritage Institute, and Professor Alexandra, who addressed the positive Arab influence on Portuguese culture. He pointed out the importance of the book of the Portuguese historian Daurte Barboza from the middle of the sixteenth century, which was completed and translated into Arabic at the initiative of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and was published under the title “A Very Important Journey by Daurte Barboza,” to constitute a qualitative addition to the Arab library and among the products of research cooperation. Other works in archaeology, translation and historical studies.

On the sidelines of the symposium, the President of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage honored the participants and discussants, and Bait Al Naboodah witnessed the signing of the book “Dispersion of Expressions in the Collection of Essays” by Dr. Hamad bin Saray, issued by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, in appreciation of his scientific and cultural contributions.

On the other hand, the Sharjah Institute for Heritage launched cruises for visitors to the Sharjah Heritage Days in a qualitative initiative that is the first of its kind aimed at enriching the public’s experience and creating an atmosphere of fun and joy that linked a number of marine sites from the Abagla and Al Qasba ship to the Al Qasimia ship back and forth.

With this diversity of programs and initiatives, Sharjah Heritage Days confirms its ability to combine knowledge, pleasure, history and experience to establish Sharjah as a global beacon of culture, heritage and civilizational dialogue.
