5 hours to study in Dubai private schools during Ramadan

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai announced a new organization for the school day in private schools during the holy month of Ramadan, stipulating that the duration of school hours should not exceed a maximum of five hours during weekdays, with an emphasis on ending the school day on Friday no later than 11:30 am, ensuring that students and educational and administrative bodies have the opportunity to perform Friday prayers, and in a way that is consistent with the privacy of the holy month.
Educational environment
The authority explained to “Emirates Today” that these directives come within the framework of its keenness to harmonize the educational environment with the spiritual atmosphere of the month of Ramadan, and to ensure that the educational process continues smoothly and regularly, without exhausting students or disrupting academic goals, while taking into account the change in the daily lifestyle resulting from fasting.
Time ceiling
She stressed that setting a time limit for the school day aims to achieve a thoughtful balance between the requirements of the curriculum and the comfort of students, in a way that enhances their ability to concentrate and comprehend, and maintains the quality of learning during this exceptional month.
Strict adherence
The authority stressed the importance of strict adherence to ending school hours on Friday at the specified time, as an affirmation of respect for religious rituals, and an embodiment of an approach that takes into account the social and humanitarian dimension associated with the holy month of Ramadan.
Exemption for those who are fasting
The instructions included exempting fasting students from physical education classes during fasting hours, in order to ensure their health safety and to avoid any physical stress that might affect their ability to continue the school day in a safe and comfortable manner.
Communication channels
The authority called on school administrations to involve parents in determining the start and end times of school hours during Ramadan, through approved communication channels, in a way that strengthens the partnership between the school and the family, and contributes to organizing the student’s day in an integrated manner that is compatible with his academic and family obligations.

These directives reflect a balanced approach that combines the requirements of education with considerations of human reality, and confirms the keenness of the private education regulator in Dubai to provide a flexible and disciplined school environment at the same time, that places the student’s interest at the top priority, and maintains the regularity of study and the quality of its outcomes during the Holy Month.
