"Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival" Employs digital media to spread poetic knowledge

ABU DHABI, 10th February, 2018 (WAM) – The activities of the second session of the Abu Dhabi Poetry Festival, organized by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, continued at the ADNEC Center in Abu Dhabi, amid a wide presence of poets, researchers, writers, the public, students, and those interested in poetry.

The festival presented the cultural podcast experience as a new dialogue platform within its activities. Four episodes were recorded on the first day, presented by a number of media professionals, with the participation of poets, critics, and researchers to talk about their creative experiences and issues of contemporary poetry, in dialogues that combine the cognitive and human dimensions.

This digital content allows the audience to follow poetry discussions outside the framework of live events.

The podcast episodes contribute to expanding the poetry audience and reaching new categories of those interested in culture, and reflect the festival’s orientation towards employing digital media to disseminate poetic knowledge and enhance its presence in the contemporary cultural space.

The Poetry Theater also presented 3 poetry evenings with the participation of 11 poets. Poets Musaed Bin Tasas, Ali Al Khawar, Muhammad Jarallah Al Sahli, and Dr. Khamis Al Muqimi participated in the opening evening, and it was presented by journalist Abdullah Al Karbi.

The festival witnessed a distinguished presence of performing arts, which presented live performances whose elements were inspired by the Emirati cultural heritage. The vocal and kinetic performance intertwined with the musical rhythm to form an artistic experience that embodies the poem in its audio-visual form.

These performances contributed to highlighting the relationship between poetry and folk arts, as a living extension of the poem in cultural memory, and a bridge linking the poetic word and collective artistic expression.

The Little Poet’s Corner witnessed a remarkable presence, and constituted an educational and cultural space dedicated to children and adolescents, with the aim of discovering emerging poetic talents and developing them in a stimulating, creative environment.

The corner provided training workshops and interactive activities that familiarize participants with the basics of writing and reciting a poem.

It also organized poetry reading sessions and mini-competitions that allowed children to express their thoughts and experiences in the language of poetry.

The children’s participation reflected a great interaction with the activities presented, as promising poetic attempts emerged that showed a passion for the Arabic language and interest in the poem, in a scene that reflects the importance of cultural initiatives concerned with developing creativity among new generations and enhancing their connection to the literary and poetic heritage.
