Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, at the ADNOC headquarters in the Jebel Dhanna area, “The First Eco Expo Industrial Forum and Exhibition,” under the slogan “Smart Industry… Clean Environment.”
The opening was attended by Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, along with representatives of ADNOC, and a group of strategic partners, experts and specialists in the fields of industrial innovation and environmental sustainability, which reflects the importance of the forum as a comprehensive national platform for dialogue and joint action.
During the opening, Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan launched the “Smart Planting Platform,” a pioneering initiative aimed at integrating advanced technology with field environmental work, and providing smart, measurable solutions to reduce the carbon footprint, through partnerships led by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan’s cultural and educational institutions, in line with the “Plant the Emirates” initiative.
The platform seeks to achieve an ambitious goal of planting five million trees by 2031, in addition to creating a digital environmental balance for each tree, which allows documentation of its ability to absorb carbon dioxide, which enhances transparency and enshrines the concepts of long-term sustainability.
Sheikha Shamma stressed that the traditional separation between industry and the environment is no longer acceptable in light of the accelerating climate challenges, calling for adopting a new thinking that redefines industry. To be a driving force and an optimal solution for sustainability through smart green industry.
She added that holding the “First Eco Expo” under the slogan “Smart Industry… Clean Environment” does not represent just a title, but rather reflects a practical vision that contributes to shaping the features of the future, noting that this gathering constitutes a real platform for moving sustainability from the theoretical framework to the application spaces, through effective partnerships that bring together the government and industrial sectors and community institutions, and redesign the relationship between the economy and the environment through innovation.
She considered that the primary goal of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan’s cultural and educational institutions is to support the country’s efforts in the field of sustainability, based on the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, towards a sustainable future for Emirati society.
She explained that the platform will provide an integrated package of technical services, including identifying the most suitable sites for agriculture, selecting the most effective types of plants in reducing carbon emissions, and employing smart irrigation techniques to ensure efficient use of natural resources.
For her part, Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak confirmed that the launch of this forum in the heart of Al-Dhanna Industrial City embodies the wise vision of the wise leadership in making the industrial sector a major partner and an effective driver in protecting the environment.
She pointed out that the slogan “Smart Industry, Clean Environment” reflects the UAE’s strategic direction towards aligning economic growth with environmental sustainability, and employing advanced technology to achieve the goals of climate neutrality 2050.
Her Excellency added that the launch of the smart afforestation platform represents a qualitative source that supports the country’s trends in promoting positive environmental behavior and expanding greening and agriculture, by transferring environmental work from traditional efforts to measurable digital solutions, thus consolidating the legacy of the founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and enhancing society’s ability to transform climate challenges into opportunities for innovation and joint action for a sustainable future for future generations.
Regarding ADNOC’s efforts in the field of sustainability, Dr. Ghawiya Al Neyadi, Senior Vice President of National Identity, Quality of Life and Community Responsibility at ADNOC, said: “Sustainability is a fundamental pillar of ADNOC’s strategy and an integral part of its operations to ensure the creation of long-term value and contribute to the protection of natural ecosystems in the UAE. Preserving the environment represents a firm national commitment and an extension of an ancient legacy that ADNOC is proud of and will continue to consolidate and adhere to for generations.” After a generation, in conjunction with continuous work with its partners to promote innovative solutions that support building a more sustainable future.”
On the sidelines of the forum, a memorandum of understanding was signed for joint cooperation between the Department of Municipalities and Transport and the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural Center, within the framework of supporting pioneering national initiatives in the field of afforestation and environmental sustainability, and enhancing the quality of life in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The memorandum aims to unify institutional efforts and enhance coordination in the areas of identifying agricultural and afforestation sites, and include them within the “eGhars” platform for smart afforestation, in addition to providing agricultural consultations, and implementing agricultural work under joint supervision, in order to achieve a sustainable environmental impact that serves the community and keeps pace with the goals of the national agenda and climate neutrality.
