“Cybersecurity” calls for choosing safe electronic donation methods during the month of Ramadan

The Cyber Security Council called on individuals and institutions to choose safe electronic donation methods during the holy month of Ramadan, stressing that adopting reliable payment methods contributes to reducing cyber risks and reducing fraudulent operations by up to 25%.
The Council explained that the increasing demand for donations during the holy month requires greater caution and caution when conducting financial transactions via cyberspace, pointing out that verifying the reliability and security of payment methods protects individuals and institutions from falling victims to fraud and theft of financial data.
In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, the Council confirmed that the use of secure payment methods contributes to reducing the chances of exposure to electronic fraud and identity theft crimes, explaining that 79% of institutions were subjected to attacks or fraudulent attempts in payments during the year 2024, which reflects the importance of adhering to protection and security measures when conducting any digital financial transactions.
He pointed out the risks associated with unsecured payment methods, including personal data breaches, credit card fraud, and fake refunds, in addition to dealing with payment systems linked to unknown or unreliable service providers, and the resulting violation of approved standards and regulations.
The Council stressed the need to modify digital behaviors related to dealing with financial data by constantly checking the security of payment methods, avoiding storing financial information on personal devices, monitoring bank accounts periodically, and not interacting with fake advertisements or unauthorized parties, while ensuring the authenticity of incoming messages in light of fraudsters resorting to imitating the logos of banks and reliable financial entities to lure individuals.
The Council called on individuals and companies to use secure technologies when donating electronically, most notably encryption technologies and activating double or multi-stage authentication to confirm digital identity, in addition to encoding data and using fraud prevention systems to monitor suspicious activities and reduce risks.
He stressed the importance of periodically reviewing privacy settings on various devices, deleting untrusted applications, updating operating systems and programs regularly, and turning these practices into daily behaviors that contribute to protecting individuals and institutions in light of rapid technical developments.
The Council considered that safety in cyberspace has become a major challenge, and that adherence to preventive measures and sound behaviors contributes to supporting government efforts aimed at confronting digital challenges and enhancing the security of the national digital system.
The Cyber Pulse awareness campaign launched by the Cyber Security Council comes to support the UAE’s ongoing efforts to build a secure cyberspace that protects users from growing digital risks, and keeps pace with rapid technical developments within a comprehensive national vision to enhance confidence in the country’s digital system and enhance the culture of cybersecurity to raise the level of digital awareness among families and individuals and enhance cybersecurity practices to ensure the safety and privacy of citizens and residents in the era of accelerating digital transformation.
