Abu Dhabi, February 15 / WAM / The Economic Integration Committee discussed mechanisms for enhancing cooperation and coordination between federal and local authorities to enhance the competitiveness of the entrepreneurship environment and push it to more advanced and prosperous levels, and the growth of the silver economy in the country, which contributes to consolidating its position as a leading global destination for business and investment.

The committee reviewed the outcomes and recommendations of its previous meeting, and its efforts to develop the state’s legislative environment, in accordance with international best practices.

This came during the committee’s second meeting for the year 2026, chaired by His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism, and in the presence of Their Excellencies the Directors of General Economic Departments in the seven emirates of the country.

His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri stressed that the UAE, thanks to the directives of its wise leadership, has made great strides to develop an advanced economic legislative structure, characterized by an integrated approach that focuses on empowering the private sector, stimulating innovation and entrepreneurship, and strengthening partnerships between federal and local authorities, which contributed to enhancing the growth of the national economy.

During the meeting, His Excellency said that the Economic Integration Committee played a pivotal role in consolidating the UAE’s position in global competitive indicators, by working to develop flexible and competitive policies and legislation, especially since the country ranked third globally in ease of doing business and opportunities for future economic growth, and seventh globally in the strength and stability of the economy, within the Soft Power Index for the year 2026, which reflects the strength of the UAE economic and business environment and its attractiveness for investment and companies from all over the world.

His Excellency pointed out the importance of enhancing the benefit of the results and outcomes of the World Government Summit 2026, which contributed to expanding the horizons of establishing national companies with global partnerships, based on investment in the sectors of modern technologies, artificial intelligence technologies and innovation, which are future sectors that lead the national economy to sustainable growth, as well as establishing the “Future of the Economy” forum, which constituted an important station to focus on the growth opportunities of the global economy in light of the economic and geopolitical transformations at the regional and international levels, and highlighting the importance of economic pluralism in strengthening economic and investment relations between countries.

In detail, the committee reviewed national efforts to enhance the contribution of entrepreneurship and small and medium enterprises to the national economy, as well as opportunities for cooperation between the relevant federal and local authorities to provide a legislative environment supportive of the growth of startup companies and help them expand in foreign markets, thus consolidating the UAE’s position as a leading destination for entrepreneurship and emerging projects at the regional and global levels.

The committee approved the proposal of the Ministry of Economy and Tourism regarding the formation of a permanent technical legal team affiliated with the committee, which works as a team for economic legislation at the level of economic development departments and includes legal representatives from the ministry, local economic development departments and relevant legislative bodies, with the aim of supporting national efforts to develop a flexible and proactive economic legislative system that is consistent with best global practices, by enhancing legal coordination and unifying the work methodology among the concerned authorities, and shortening the time period necessary to harmonize new legislation and economic policies.

The committee indicated that the economic legislation team will contribute to providing a unified work platform that brings together concerned parties and parties to discuss legislation and exchange opinions on an ongoing basis, through periodic meetings and consensus formulation to follow up on progress, address discrepancies, and reach joint decisions, thus accelerating the issuance of legislation through rapid implementation of agreed-upon results and reducing the approval cycle. The economic legislation team will also periodically submit its outputs and recommendations to the committee for approval and follow-up on their implementation.

The committee reviewed the growth potential of the silver economy in the country, as it represents one of the future economic paths that keeps pace with global demographic transformations, opening new horizons for investment in promising sectors that include health care and well-being, financial services and retirement, elderly-friendly housing, affordable tourism, mobility and smart services, in addition to supportive paths that include jobs and productivity, investment and financing, awareness and empowerment.

The committee stressed that the focus on the silver economy is consistent with the goals of the “Year of the Family 2026”, as it is an economic and social tributary that enhances the quality of life and supports the building of a more comprehensive and sustainable economy, characterized by integrated services, stimulates investment and innovation in care solutions and health technologies, and attracts quality projects.

The meeting witnessed a discussion of developments in linking the National Economic Register “Nomu” with government agencies and licensing authorities in the country, as well as what has been accomplished since its launch until now, especially since the National Economic Register contributes to the development of a unified national system for companies and commercial licenses in the country, in a way that enhances the quality and accuracy of information and its exchange between government agencies with high efficiency and reliability.
