The Ministry of Health organizes a workshop to prepare the national policy to promote smart health services

Dubai, February 16 / WAM / The Ministry of Health and Community Protection organized the “National Policy to Promote Smart Services and Artificial Intelligence in the Health Field” workshop, with the aim of formulating a comprehensive national framework that supports the employment of artificial intelligence and transforming it into an institutional approach governed by standards, based on data quality, privacy protection, and measuring the impact on society and the customer experience, in a way that raises the readiness of the health system to provide more accurate, efficient and proactive services.

The workshop was attended by His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of Health and Community Protection, His Excellency Dr. Hussein Al-Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, Dr. Lubna Al Shaali, Director of the Health Policy and Legislation Department, and representatives of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, the Emirates Health Services Corporation, the Office of Artificial Intelligence in the Council of Ministers, the Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Health, Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence, Ajman University, and Zayed University, in addition to the participation of representatives of companies: Microsoft, Dell, Huawei, and Professor Richard Hobbs, Director of the Oxford Institute for Digital Health.

The policy is based on main axes that include: consolidating governance and leadership, enhancing partnerships, integration and data exchange, expanding applications of artificial intelligence in healthcare, developing digital infrastructure and capabilities, in addition to empowering health personnel with the necessary skills, raising the level of cybersecurity, and adopting an ethical framework that ensures transparency and responsibility, in addition to stimulating innovation, research, and information systems that support the smart health system.

Al-Rand stressed that preparing the national policy to promote smart services and artificial intelligence in the health field falls within the state’s directions in digital transformation, and is consistent with the ministry’s objectives in developing health policies and legislation, enhancing the quality of services, and raising the readiness of the health system to keep pace with changes, indicating that this path reflects the ministry’s keenness to employ advanced technologies as a lever to improve the quality of life, and build a more proactive and sustainable health system.

He explained that the workshop brings together various parties of the health system to formulate national directions, leading to practical, implementable and measurable outcomes, pointing out that the focus is on transforming directions into clear steps that ensure consistency and integration of efforts, in a way that enhances community confidence in smart health services, improves the customer experience, and raises the efficiency of performance at the level of the health system.

Dr. Lubna Al-Shaali explained that the workshop focused on developing the features of an implementable national policy based on best practices, with the aim of sustainably developing an integrated health policy system, by preparing a multi-sector national framework to enhance smart transformation and the use of artificial intelligence in the health field at the preventive, therapeutic, rehabilitative and operational levels.

She added that the workshop witnessed fruitful discussions on preparing a multi-sectoral implementation plan for the national policy, setting national goals and indicators, and evaluation and follow-up mechanisms to ensure continuous improvement of quality and efficiency, integrating the concept of smart health into national policies and promoting sustainable financing, in addition to encouraging integrated financing models and supporting investment in innovative solutions and emerging digital companies in the health field.

The workshop included dialogue sessions and specialized discussions that reviewed smart health priorities, applications of artificial intelligence in the health field, governance determinants and integration requirements, leading to practical outcomes that support the preparation of national policy in an executable and measurable form, in addition to formulating recommendations that contribute to unifying trends and enhancing the readiness of the health system, in a way that establishes the responsible use of advanced technologies and improves the quality of services and the customer experience.
