Opening of Al Ruwayyah Street to enhance the connection between Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Streets

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai opened Al Ruwayyah Street, with a length of 3.5 km, with the aim of linking Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, near Dubai Silicon Oasis and Nad Hessa, while providing a direct entrance and exit leading to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street for the Nad Hessa residential area, Dubai International Academic City, Dubai Silicon Oasis and Warsan 4. The project to construct the street linking Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street comes within the framework of the Authority’s efforts to develop the road network, to accommodate the needs of urban development and population growth, and to enhance connectivity between residential, commercial and service areas.
The project also included converting the Knowledge and Human Development Authority roundabout located on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, near Dubai International Academic City, Nad Hessa and Dubai Silicon Oasis, into an intersection controlled by a traffic signal, which enhances traffic safety. Two-kilometre-long dedicated bicycle paths were also implemented with the aim of encouraging exercise and the use of individual means of transportation.
The project contributes to increasing the capacity of Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street by up to 40%, and reducing the travel time to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road from 10 minutes to 4 minutes, an improvement of 60%, which will reflect positively on the flow of traffic and the quality of transportation in the region, as it is expected that more than 80,000 people will benefit from the project by 2030.
The Al Ruwayyah Street project is one of the most prominent road network infrastructure development projects in the emirate, and serves a number of vital residential, service and development areas, most notably Dubai International Academic City, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Nad Hessa and Warsan 4.
