Dubai, 6 March / WAM / British jockey Ray Dawson achieved a remarkable achievement during the penultimate evening of the Dubai Racing Carnival, after he led the horse “Al-Najm” to victory in the third category “Ras Al Khor” race sponsored by Emaar, within the 15th evening of the Dubai Racing Carnival season, which was held today at the Meydan Racecourse, with the participation of 107 horses competing in 8 various rounds for total prizes amounting to 2.5 million dirhams.
The horse, under the supervision of trainer Michael Costa, gave a strong performance in the main half of the evening, a distance of 1,400 meters on the grass track, where he overtook the first category champion, “Maestrios Knight”, to secure victory by two and three-quarter lengths.
Dawson completed a double in the category races during the evening after leading the horse “Mounir Du Soleil” to win the “Al-Ruwayya Farm” race, designated for purebred Arabian horses, over a distance of 1,400 meters on the grass track.
The victory came after a struggle between two horses trained by coach Ibrahim Al-Hadrami, where the winner was able to prevail in the last moments over the horse “AR Rawa”.
This is the fourth victory in the career of the 9-year-old horse, but it is the first since his participation in the Qatar races in 2021, which Dawson considered an important achievement, stressing that the horse is constantly performing at good levels despite his few victories.
For its part, the training team, led by coach Simon Crisford and his son Ed Crisford, continued its strong performances at the carnival, after the Brazilian jockey Silvestre de Souza led the horse “Envolution” to win the “Downtown Dash Handicap” race, a distance of 1,900 meters on the grass track, two lengths ahead of the first candidate, “Masai Moon.”
The Emaar Momentum Handicap race, a distance of 1,200 meters on grass, witnessed an exciting end, after the 6-year-old horse, Desperate Hero, outperformed his younger rivals, ahead by a short head over the two horses, Post Modern and Do Or Do Not, to achieve his second victory in three starts under the supervision of trainer Salem Bin Ghadeer and led by jockey Bernardo Pinheiro.
Trainer Musabih Al Muhairi excelled in achieving a double with jockey Richard Mullen, which began with the horse “Sirocco Winds” winning the “Emaar Surge Handicap” race for a distance of 1400 meters on the sand track, after he made up for his loss to the horse “Nayyar” in his previous participation and achieved victory by a margin of three and a quarter lengths.
The double was completed with the victory of the horse “Al-Yabri” in the “Emaar Champions Stakes” race, a distance of 2200 meters on sand, after he came back strongly in the last meters along the internal fence to achieve an exciting victory ahead of “Valdivia” and the first candidate, “The Prince.”
In the “Next Mile by Emaar” race for three-year-old horses over a distance of 1,200 metres, trainer Ahmed bin Harmash continued his positive results this week after his victory in “Super Saturday”, where the British jockey Connor Beesley led the horse “Honest Desert” to victory after a strong struggle with the fast filly “Miss Chance”.
The evening concluded with the horse “Vercor” winning the “Emaar Velocity Handicap” race led by De Souza, achieving his first victory locally after a strong start from the back of the field, ahead of “Jumeirah Bay” and “Open Mind.”
