"Sharjah Library Literature" Receives research "Artificial intelligence in libraries" Until June 30

Sharjah, June 18 / WAM / Sharjah Public Libraries continues to receive applications for nominations for the 26th session of the “Sharjah Award for Library Literature – 2025-2026” until June 30, calling on researchers, institutions, libraries and specialists to submit their entries in one of the most prominent Arab awards specialized in the field of libraries and information.

The award aims to contribute to the advancement of research and studies in the field of libraries, documents, archives and information, in addition to spreading awareness of its importance and its role in developing the cultural and research movement in the Arab world. The award also seeks to attract researchers in universities and libraries and encourage them to participate in their studies with the aim of improving the areas of scientific research in this field.

This session comes under the slogan “Artificial Intelligence in Libraries: Innovation and Impact,” emphasizing the importance of employing modern technologies in developing knowledge environments and enriching library services. The award includes three categories, including “Research Category,” “Best Arab Library or Information Institution,” and “Best Project and Practice in the Field of Specialization.”

The winners of the award will be announced and honored during the activities of the “Sharjah Library Literature Award Forum” at the headquarters of the Sharjah Book Authority, where the total cash prizes amount to 85 thousand dirhams.

Iman Bushalibi, Director of the Sharjah Libraries Department, with the support of the Sharjah Book Authority, said: The Sharjah Award for Library Literature contributes to spreading library, information and cognitive awareness, as a translation of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in promoting culture, the scientific and research movement, and supporting cultural institutions and bodies in the Arab world to advance this vital field.

She added: In its twenty-sixth session, the award chose the topic of artificial intelligence in libraries based on the great transformation that information institutions are experiencing today and their need to benefit from smart technologies in addition to employing artificial intelligence in a way that serves people and knowledge and gives the library sector a stronger presence in the innovation and development system.

The Sharjah Library Literature Award 2025-2026 keeps pace with the transformations taking place in the library sector and information institutions with the development of smart technologies, the expanding presence of generative artificial intelligence, and the growing need for Arab studies and practices that monitor the impact of these technologies in knowledge management, improving the user experience, developing research and discovery services, and building more efficient and responsible technical structures.

The “Research Award” receives specialized research that addresses the topic of artificial intelligence in libraries through three axes: “Basic technologies and applications of artificial intelligence,” “User experience and accessibility,” and “Technical architecture and implementation.”

This award honors three places, where the first-place winner receives 20,000 dirhams, the second-place winner receives 15,000 dirhams, and the third-place winner receives 10,000 dirhams.

The criteria for participation in the “Research Award” include that the research be characterized by scientific originality and objectivity, and that it must not have been previously published or nominated for publication, while adhering to an accurate scientific method, documenting sources and references, and providing a scientific addition in the field of libraries and information.

The “Best Arab Library or Information Institution” category honors excellence in innovation and influence in the field of artificial intelligence and is awarded to an Arab library or information institution that presents an advanced model in employing artificial intelligence, whether in developing services, improving access to information, building more efficient user experiences, or adopting technical structures capable of supporting smart transformation in office work.

This category is based on assessing the organization’s ability to integrate artificial intelligence into its operational processes and measuring the impact of this in serving its community, in addition to considering the comprehensiveness and completeness of sources, quality of services, accessibility for various categories of users, data protection, as well as cooperation, communication, and application of the concepts of creativity, innovation, and anticipating the future to achieve proactive response to the evolving needs of its users and adaptation to changing technology.

The third category, “Best Project and Practice in the Field of Specialization,” targets projects and practices implemented by Arab libraries and information centers that are consistent with their messages and values ​​and provide practical solutions in the field of artificial intelligence, digital transformation, or knowledge management, with a focus on clarity of goals, implementation stages, professional and societal impact, and the ability to transfer the experience to other institutions.

The criteria for this category include supporting digital transformation, enhancing creativity and innovation, developing research and discovery tools, improving bibliographic control and indexing practices, and employing modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual and integrated reality to simplify operations and improve the user experience.
