A joint statement between the UAE and Belgium regarding the implementation of the process of handing over three wanted persons to the Belgian authorities
Abu Dhabi, June 18 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice, and His Excellency Anneliese Verlinden, Minister of Justice of the Kingdom of Belgium, made a phone call today, regarding the implementation of the process of handing over three persons wanted by the Belgian authorities, who are wanted under Red Notices issued by the International Criminal Police Organization “Interpol” on charges related to money laundering, drug trafficking, and association with organized criminal groups. Cross borders.
The extradition operations took place in accordance with the decisions and judicial rulings issued by the competent judicial authorities in the UAE, and based on the extradition agreement concluded between the UAE and the Kingdom of Belgium.
The two ministers stressed that these operations reflect a strong joint commitment to the rule of law, strengthening international judicial cooperation, and combating cross-border organized crime, especially crimes related to money laundering and illicit drug trafficking. They also stressed the importance of this achievement, which reflects the strength of the legal and judicial partnership between the two countries, and their shared keenness to ensure that people accused of committing serious crimes are brought before justice.
Al Nuaimi reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to strengthening bilateral judicial cooperation with the Kingdom of Belgium, noting the importance of international cooperation in combating cross-border organized crimes, drying up the sources of money laundering, and prosecuting financial crime perpetrators, in a way that contributes to enhancing security and stability and consolidating the rule of law at the regional and international levels.
His Excellency praised the bilateral cooperation with the Kingdom of Belgium and the close relationship between the two countries, and the keenness to strengthen this cooperation in the judicial and legal fields, including the extradition agreement, noting that the UAE is keen to strengthen cooperation in the legal and judicial fields with all countries of the world, and to exchange expertise in the judicial and legal fields, including money laundering, terrorist financing, drug smuggling and organized crime, in a way that serves judicial justice.
Her Excellency Verlinden expressed her deep appreciation to the UAE authorities for their continued efforts to enhance mutual judicial cooperation, praising the role played by the judicial authorities and law enforcement agencies in the UAE throughout the stages of extradition procedures, stressing that this process represents a successful model of international cooperation in combating transnational organized crime.
