Khorfakkan Mango Festival kicks off on June 26 at Expo Khorfakkan
Sharjah, June 18 / WAM / On June 26, Expo Center Khor Fakkan will host the activities of the fifth season of the “Khor Fakkan Mango Festival” for 3 days in a leading economic, agricultural and tourism platform that celebrates the finest types of local mango fruits that abound in the eastern region of the Emirate of Sharjah, under the slogan “Mangoes are our fruit, our wealth.”
The festival, organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Municipal Council of the City of Khor Fakkan, and the Municipality of the City of Khor Fakkan, with the support of the Government of Sharjah, is an integrated agricultural, tourism and economic destination that aims to highlight the wealth of the Eastern Region in seasonal fruits and open new marketing horizons for farm owners, local producers and productive families, in a way that contributes to advancing sustainable development and revitalizing the commercial movement in the emirate. In its fifth season, it seeks to strengthen the position of “Khor Fakkan” as a distinguished agricultural center and support farmers. local people and develop their production.
The festival includes five main competitions for which financial prizes are allocated to the winners in all categories. The competitions begin on the opening day with the mango decoration competition for the main category, the largest mango competition, and the most beautiful mango basket competition for families. The competitions continue on the second and third days with the children’s mango decoration competition and the best innovative idea or mango-based project competition.
Khalil Al Mansouri, Director of Government Relations at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that the festival represents an ideal platform for farmers in the Eastern Region to market their crops and enhance local commercial activities, as well as tourism promotion for the region to attract visitors from inside and outside the country to explore its picturesque natural features and rich agricultural heritage, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Food Security 2051 and enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector as it is a basic pillar of food security and the national economy.
He added that the festival supports the promotion of local mangoes and highlights the tireless efforts of farmers in developing agricultural production, while the competitions accompanying the event aim to motivate producers to excel in their agriculture and benefit from the experiences of old farmers in addition to learning about the latest agricultural technologies, stressing the Chamber’s commitment to continuing to strengthen strategic partnerships to provide initiatives that contribute to advancing the wheel of comprehensive development in the country.
The main festival competitions witness strict controls to ensure justice and equal opportunities, as the production is required to be local and provided from the produce of the participant’s farm or home garden, with the submission of official ownership documents upon registration, in addition to other conditions, including the commitment of the first place winners to undergo field inspections and audits of their farms and homes by the jury.
The festival’s agenda includes a display of the finest types of mangoes, citrus fruits and various fruits produced by farms in the Eastern Region. It welcomes visitors with a range of educational and awareness programs and a series of specialized workshops on modern farming methods and how to care for the mango tree and protect it from pests, in addition to cultural and artistic events and activities, folklore heritage paintings, daily competitions and valuable prizes.
