From the penalty spot… South Africa celebrates a 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic

South Africa and the Czech Republic tied 1-1 today, Thursday, for the second round of Group A of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Czech team, which led with an early goal, failed to maintain its lead and conceded a goal minutes before the end, with each team earning the first point in the current edition of the tournament, after the Czechs lost in the first round to South Korea 1-2, and Mexico, a participant in the organization, defeated South Africa 0-2.

Michal Sadilek scored the lead goal for the Czechs in the sixth minute, then Teboho Mokoena equalized with a penalty kick for South Africa in the 83rd minute, and the players celebrated in their own World Cup style.

With this result, each team maintains its hopes of qualifying for the next round if it wins the last round, as the South African team will meet with South Korea, while the Czech team will play with Mexico.
