Iran confirms the killing of Revolutionary Guard Navy Commander Ali Reza Tangsiri

Iran confirmed on Monday the killing of the Commander of the Naval Forces of the Revolutionary Guard, Brigadier General Ali Reza Tangsiri, days after Israel announced that it had targeted him in an air strike.

A statement published on the Revolutionary Guards’ Sepah News website said that Tangsiri died of severe injuries.

On Thursday, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced the assassination of Tangsiri in an air strike.

Reports stated that Tangsiri is considered one of the most prominent Iranian military leaders, and was credited with a major role in managing maritime operations, including threats related to closing the Strait of Hormuz.

Katz said in a video statement, “The man who was directly responsible for the operation of planting mines and closing the Strait of Hormuz to shipping traffic was targeted and eliminated.”

Katz had stated that senior officers in the naval command were killed in the strike that killed Tangsiri, without going into further details.
