Real Madrid coach laments “luck” after losing at home to Bayern Munich

Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed that his team’s loss to Bayern Munich 1-2, on Tuesday, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals could have been avoided in the second half with a little luck.
Arbeloa said in statements published on the club’s website: “This is a defeat that we could have avoided in the second half with a little luck.” We faced a very big team and we knew that. We made two mistakes, two losses. We talked about them before the match and during the break, that we must avoid them and above all be prepared, and if they happen, be more closed.”
He added: “Against this type of team, if you make these mistakes, you will pay the price. This is what we must face. Obviously we scored a goal that gave us hope, and the regret was not scoring some of the chances we had. “It will not be easy in the second leg, but if there is a team that can win in Munich, it is Real Madrid.”
He stressed: “We showed that we can harm them and score goals. We had enough chances to score additional goals. We will benefit a lot from what happened and how they played. We have reached this stage of the tournament almost without preparation on the field, which is not easy for a team like us, which is not as prepared as Bayern Munich, which has worked for a long time with its coach and knows exactly what he wants.
He continued: “For the return match, I stick to my players. There were situations when the score was 1-2 where the craving was for an equaliser. We have to be more calm because losing 1-3 would have made things much more difficult, but I also admire my team’s ambition in not wanting to lose, knowing that you are playing at home and continuing to attack.”
He stressed: “It is unfortunate that we did not take advantage of an additional opportunity. Of course, I have great confidence in going to Germany and winning there.”
Regarding the absence of Aurelien Chouamini, Arbeloa said: “We will have time to think about who will play.” We have reliable options. It is clear that it is a big loss because of a card that I do not know what the referee saw in it, and I do not understand why he did not issue a red card in those interventions against Mbappe. There are sometimes things that are difficult to understand, but this is what we have and we will go to Munich nonetheless.”
