A New Zealand cyclist was suspended for assaulting a competitor with a punch during a race

The International Cycling Union said that it decided to suspend New Zealand racer Kian Watts for 25 days, after he punched one of the racers during a race held last month.
A video clip showed Watts (24 years old) directing a punch to the head of Dutch racer Maren Maas, during the Stir van Gwolle race, which was held in the Netherlands on the seventh of last March. The International Federation explained that Watts accepted the punishment, and will be subject to suspension until the second of next May.
The International Federation said in a statement: “Kiana Watts will be subject to a 25-day suspension period, with the one day of suspension imposed on him by his team on March 8th being counted within the suspension period.”
After the incident, Watts posted an apology on social media, saying he had acted in a moment of anger, and his team, NSN Development, also issued an apology.
The team said: “The team expects its competitors to compete in a sporting and professional spirit at all times.”
