Real Madrid continues to shed points…and the dream of the league is moving away

Real Madrid’s hopes of winning the Spanish League title received a new blow, with a 1-0 draw with its guest, Girona, extending the Royal team’s streak of absence of victories to 3 consecutive matches in all competitions.
This result gave leaders Barcelona the opportunity to expand the gap to 9 points, if it wins today over Espanyol.
The Catalan team is at the top of the league with 76 points, 6 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, which has played more matches.
Federico Valverde put Real Madrid in the lead 6 minutes after the start of the second half, with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area that slipped through the hands of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.
But Girona equalized in the 62nd minute, when Toma Lemar penetrated from the right side and shot the ball powerfully from the edge of the penalty area.
Real Madrid pressed in search of the winning goal, but lacked calm, while Girona defended with numerical intensity to secure the equalizing point, and succeeded in doing so.
