Windsurfing is a new addition to the “Modern Sailing and Rowing” umbrella

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation, confirmed that the sport of surfing is a new and important addition to the Federation’s umbrella, with great ambitions to prepare generations of champions, with high competitive capabilities that qualify them to win first places in continental and international championships.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan said in a statement today to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that the number of amateur athletes in this sport is small, and that the federation is keen to implement the best practices, to spread them widely in the coming period, through motivating and encouraging programs, and organizing various events, to discover talents, especially since this sport has received great support with the establishment of “Abu Dhabi Surf” on Al Hudayriat Island, which is the largest of its kind in creating artificial waves, to establish champions from the sons and daughters of the Emirates for future tournaments.
He explained that the sons and daughters of the country have proven their worth by winning medals in regional, continental and international championships during the past period, which confirms the strong foundation of the promising elements in the federation, with their advanced skills and high potential, hoping for more achievements in the upcoming events.
He noted that the “ELKA 4” team is completing its preparations program through its current camp in Morocco, to participate in the activities scheduled for the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games, hosted by the Chinese city of Sanya during the period from April 19 to 30, and to compete for the first places to raise the UAE flag in this major continental forum.
He pointed out the federation’s keenness to discover talent in clubs and schools, through advanced programs to introduce marine sports, and to learn about the capabilities of athletes, their trends and desires in the types of marine sports suitable for them, such as sailing and rowing, in a way that contributes to achieving honorable results for the state.
Regarding the “Sports Champion Path” program launched by the Emirates Committee for Nurturing Sports Talents and Supporting National Sports, the President of the Emirates Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation said that the program has achieved great success in adopting promising sports talents in the various emirates of the country, and enabling them to reach the highest levels of competitive performance, through a comprehensive support system, which qualifies them to move to the elite stage and global professionalism.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan stated that the program represents great support for the federations seeking to create champions capable of competing internationally, with the support of the wise leadership, the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic Committee and the sports councils, for citizens and residents, and the aspirations of the sons and daughters of the Emirates in all foreign forums, especially since the Emirates, with the support of its leadership, provides the best conditions for practicing sports in a safe and stimulating atmosphere at all times and circumstances.
