Khalifa University is exploring cooperation with the US National Academy of Engineering

The Khalifa University of Science and Technology delegation discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation with the US National Academy of Engineering, during high-level meetings in Washington, DC.

The delegation was headed by the University’s President, Professor Ibrahim Al-Hajri, and included the University’s Senior Advisor to the President, Dr. Ray Johnson, the Senior Director of the Institute for Resource Management and Sustainability, and the Co-Chair of the UAE University Climate Network, Dr. Samuel Mao. The delegation held discussions with the President of the US National Academy of Engineering, Dr. Tzu-Jay Liu, and its CEO, Dr. Alton Romig Jr.

During the meeting, the delegation presented a strategic proposal to launch a new series of seminars entitled “Engineering Horizons” for the Arab world, similar to the annual meetings held by the “Grainger Engineering Horizons Foundation” in the United States.

Professor Ibrahim Al Hajri highlighted the growth of the research portfolio at Khalifa University, which covers five priority strategic research areas, in addition to the university’s multidisciplinary research institutes that it recently launched to address national and global challenges.

For his part, Dr. Ray Johnson gave a presentation about Khalifa University Projects Company, the arm specialized in commercial marketing and technology transfer at the university, where he touched on selected initiatives in engineering research and the successful paths the company went through from innovation to impact.

In turn, Dr. Samuel Mao, a graduate of the “Engineering Horizons” program from the US National Academy of Engineering, spoke about his professional path and his opinion about the impact of the program in shaping his academic and research career.

Professor Ibrahim Al-Hajri said that the Arab world includes a rapidly growing community of highly qualified engineers and researchers who contribute to global innovation in important sectors, and the establishment of the Engineering Horizons Seminars program for the Arab region contributes to providing a basic platform for communication between young leaders, enhancing cross-border cooperation, and accelerating the impact of engineering research and technological progress.

He added that this initiative also reflects the mission of Khalifa University as a center for advanced engineering research, innovation and talent development, and at the same time its role in strengthening long-term partnerships with leading international institutions and encouraging the next generation of Arab leaders in the field of engineering.

The proposal to launch the Engineering Horizons seminar series for the Arab world is in line with the UAE’s strategy, which emphasizes international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and consolidating the country’s position as a global pole for scientific and technological dialogue.
