4 killed and 20 injured in an armed attack on a school in Turkey

4 people were killed, and 20 others were injured, today, Wednesday, in an armed attack on a middle school in Kahramanmaraş province in southern Türkiye.

Local reports said that gunfire was heard at Eshel Chalik Middle School, and ambulance and police teams headed to the school.

A video clip at the school showed the panic of students and families who flocked to the school to find out what happened and withdraw their children, while some students threw themselves from the windows to avoid the attack.

Kahramanmaraş Governorate said in a preliminary assessment that the four dead were a school teacher and three students, and that the attacker was an eighth-grade student and killed himself after attacking two classrooms.

The governorate explained that the student had placed weapons and ammunition in his school bag, and that the initial belief indicated that these weapons belonged to his father, who was retired from the security sector.
