Mohamed Salah reveals the “advice” that made him leave Liverpool

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah revealed the scenes behind the sudden decision to leave Liverpool FC, noting that advice from club legend Steven Gerrard played a decisive role in taking this step.
Salah is scheduled to leave Anfield this summer, a year before the end of his contract, putting an end to a 9-year career full of achievements with the Reds.
During his appearance on the “The Breakdown” program on the “TNT Sports” channel, Salah talked about a meeting he had with Gerrard at a dinner table, where they had an in-depth discussion about his football future.
Salah said, addressing Gerrard: “People did not know about your visit to my house. We had a fruitful dialogue and I value your opinion very much. I am happy because I will now leave the club through the big door.”
He added: “You told me at the time: ‘Leave on your own terms,’ and these words are still engraved in my memory.”
The Egyptian star confirmed that he feels satisfied with his decision, explaining: “I have not suddenly aged, and I had a wonderful season last season, and I think I have a lot to offer, but after this season I felt that it was time to leave.”
Salah pointed out that the season was difficult for the team, without going into details, stressing that he has become convinced that this step is the most appropriate at this stage of his career.
Salah had renewed his contract with Liverpool in April 2025 until June 2027, but the decline in his numbers this season contributed to accelerating his decision to leave, so he chose to end his journey with the English club at a time he considered ideal.
