5 records in America’s victory over Paraguay in the World Cup

The United States national team achieved 5 records in its great victory over the Paraguay national team with a score of 4-1, in the opening of their journey in the 2026 World Cup, in the match that was held at the Los Angeles Stadium in the fourth group competitions.

The American team scored its first goal with friendly fire in the sixth minute, after defender Damian Bobadilla made a mistake in clearing a cross, which went into his team’s net, before Folarin Balogun added the second goal in the 30th minute. Then he returned to score the third goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the first half, while Giovanni Reyna completed the four goals in stoppage time of the second half, while Paraguay scored its only goal in the 72nd minute through substitute Mauricio.

With this victory, the United States achieved its tenth victory in history in the World Cup tournaments through 12 participations, and also recorded its largest victory in the history of its World Cup participations.

The match also witnessed a historical record that has stood for 92 years, dating back to the 1934 World Cup in Italy, when the American team was 3-0 behind the hosts at the end of the first half, in a match that ended with Italy winning 7-1.

The victory also brought back memories of the 1958 World Cup, when Paraguay lost to France 7-3, which was the last time it conceded four goals in one World Cup match.

Folarin Balogun became the first American player to score a brace in a World Cup match since Bert Patenaude in the 1930 edition, so that the American team continued to write new historical records in the tournament.
