This initiative comes within the club’s ongoing efforts and vision aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of the media sector in Dubai, by empowering competencies, exchanging experiences, and anticipating the rapid transformations in the regional and global media scene, in line with the emirate’s ambitions to be a leading platform for producing knowledge and creating media influence.

The series of workshops embodies Dubai’s strategic directions towards building an advanced media system, based on innovation, reliability, and integration between its various components. Through it, the club seeks to create an interactive dialogue environment that brings together media leaders, decision-makers, and experts, in a way that contributes to raising the quality of media content and enhancing its credibility at the regional and international levels.

The first session, which was held at the club’s headquarters, witnessed the participation of Rashid Al Marri, CEO of the Media Regulatory Office of the Dubai Media Council, and Hend Fikri, Director of the Strategic Media Relations Department at the Dubai Government Media Office, and the presence of an elite group of media leaders and representatives of local, Arab and international media.

Rashid Al Marri stressed during the media workshop that the media regulatory system in the UAE and Dubai represents an advanced model that combines flexibility and governance, and is based on a solid federal framework supported by advanced local legislation, which has contributed to establishing an organized and growth-stimulating media environment.

He explained that the establishment of the Media Regulatory Office in Dubai reflects the emirate’s commitment to keeping pace with the rapid developments in the sector and ensuring the application of international best practices.

He pointed out that regulatory frameworks are not limited to controlling media work, but rather play a pivotal role in directing it towards professionalism and responsibility, by emphasizing the importance of relying on official sources, verifying information, and adhering to publishing ethics, especially in times of crises that require the highest levels of accuracy and discipline.

Rashid Al Marri highlighted the balance that Dubai achieves between supporting the media system and ensuring compliance with laws, explaining the difference between regulating licensed media institutions and legislation related to individuals’ use of digital platforms, within the framework of a comprehensive legal system aimed at limiting the spread of misleading information.

During the session, Hind Fikri reviewed the features of the communication approach to crisis management adopted by the Dubai Government Media Office, stressing that this approach is based on the directives of the wise leadership based on proactiveness, speed, clarity, and accuracy in delivering messages, and coordination between the concerned parties.

Hind Fikri explained that the media response is activated from the first moments of events through a coordinated system characterized by high readiness and well-established institutional frameworks, noting that the communication model in Dubai is based on the principle of consensus and coordination, where the various parties work within a unified framework that ensures the consistency and clarity of official messages, and enhances their credibility with the public.

Fikri emphasized that the crisis communication environment is characterized by dynamism and constant change, in light of the increasing influence of media, digital platforms, and community interaction, which requires high awareness of how to manage the flow of information and interpret it.

She added that this approach is not limited to official channels, but rather extends to an integrated media system in which media professionals have shown a great deal of professional responsibility in conveying accurate information and enhancing public awareness.

She stressed the importance of adopting a multilingual communication strategy in a multicultural city like Dubai, stressing that making information available in diverse languages is a vital necessity to ensure that messages clearly reach various segments of society.

She said that trust remains the most important pillar of communication during crises. It is built through consistent, systematic performance, and is consolidated through the exchange of accurate information at the appropriate time, in a clear and unified manner that enhances the credibility of the message and maintains public confidence.

The Media Workshop Series is an integrated annual program designed by the Dubai Press Club to develop media talent, provide specialists with applicable practical skills, and connect the new generation with the opportunities that create the future of media in Dubai.

The workshops aim to prepare a generation of specialized media professionals and qualified content makers, to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and actual labor market requirements, support Dubai’s vision of being a leading global center for media and creative media content creation, and enhance its credibility and impact in the region, in addition to strengthening the partnership between specialists, media institutions and the Dubai Press Club.
