"My legacy" participates in"Made in UAE"

Abu Dhabi, May 5 / WAM / The Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council is participating in the fifth session of the “Made in the Emirates” exhibition within the Artisans’ Pavilion in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, in a step that reflects its orientation towards establishing crafts as part of the national production system and the creative economy.

This participation, the Council’s second in the exhibition, confirms its role in re-presenting traditional crafts within a contemporary context that keeps pace with the aspirations of the market and contributes to expanding its horizons before a wider audience of interested people, decision makers and investors.

Participation constitutes a strategic platform to introduce the capabilities of craftswomen and highlight products based on inherited skills that are today translated into design works of economic and cultural value, within the framework of the Council’s journey since 2015, which has contributed to building a network of more than 840 craftswomen from more than 12 countries within training and exchange programs that support the sustainability of crafts and expand their economic and cultural presence.

The Council showcases a selection of craft products that have been developed through specialized programs that combine Emirati crafts such as Al-Tilli and Al-Safifah with contemporary design visions in partnership with international designers, which enhances their appeal in local and international markets and reflects the Council’s approach to transforming the craft into a product that can be developed and marketed, as its products have reached international platforms in Paris, Milan and Shanghai.

Her Excellency Reem Bin Karam, Director General of the “Irthi” Council, confirmed that participation embodies the vision of empowering craftswomen and enhancing the role of crafts as a promising economic sector that contributes to the growth of the national economy, noting that more than 60 workshops were organized during the year 2024, from which about 1,400 participants benefited.
