The UAE and the United Nations are discussing enhancing cooperation in the field of sustainability and the 2026 Water Conference

Abu Dhabi, May 25 / WAM / His Excellency Abdullah Al-Alaa, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, met with Her Excellency Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, and the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations in the areas of energy, sustainability, and water-related priorities.
The two sides discussed the continued efforts made by the UAE to enhance international cooperation in support of sustainable development, especially through practical partnerships, innovative solutions and initiatives that contribute to accelerating progress towards achieving global priorities.
The meeting also shed light on the preparations related to the “United Nations Water Conference 2026”, which the UAE will host in partnership with the Republic of Senegal in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 10, 2026, as the conference is expected to constitute an important global platform for accelerating implementation, mobilizing partnerships and financing, and strengthening the position of the water file within the sustainable development agenda, by translating the political momentum of the conference into practical initiatives and partnerships.
His Excellency Al-Alaa stressed the UAE’s commitment to working closely with the United Nations and international partners to support the success of the 2026 United Nations Water Conference and contribute to its outcomes.
His Excellency noted that the UAE is open to global partnerships on water-related investments and initiatives, including areas related to water resilience, innovation, sustainable management of water resources, and practical solutions that can support collective progress.
His Excellency also stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation to confront global challenges related to water, noting that water is an essential focus for sustainable development, the ability to adapt to climate change, food security and economic prosperity. He also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to advancing the agenda that brings together governments, international organizations, financial institutions, the private sector and relevant stakeholders to achieve a tangible impact on this vital issue.
The meeting stressed the strength of the partnership between the UAE and the United Nations, and the joint commitment to enhancing comprehensive, solution-based practical cooperation, in support of global sustainability priorities and achieving the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals.
