Ebola outbreak ‘will get worse before it gets better’

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the Ebola outbreak in Africa is likely to worsen further before it is brought under control.

“We are facing a very serious and difficult outbreak. It will get worse before it gets better,” Tedros told African health ministers during an online meeting on Monday.

He continued that every effort is being made to deliver equipment to the affected area and strengthen containment measures, which include, for example, gaining the trust of the population and isolating people who have been in contact with the infected.

He added: “We are working to intensify operations urgently, but at the present time the epidemic is ahead of us.”

The Director of the World Health Organization said that he will travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo tomorrow, Tuesday.

According to the latest figures, there were more than 900 suspected cases of Ebola during the outbreak, and more than 200 patients died.

The government reported more than 100 confirmed cases of the disease through laboratory testing, including 10 confirmed Ebola deaths.
