The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by Beekeeper Khaled Al-Abyad, ranked second globally in the crystallized mangrove honey category, in the London International Honey Quality Competition for the year 2026.

This coronation came after a strong competition that brought together about 300 beekeepers representing 36 countries around the world, during which the products were subjected to precise laboratory and sensory evaluations to determine the levels of purity and quality.

Beekeeper Khaled Al-Abyad explained to “Al-Youm” that the Kingdom’s participation in the current edition witnessed A notable improvement, following the achievement of Saudi beekeepersSeven advanced positions worldwide in multiple categories.

Two evaluation paths

He indicated that the evaluation process was based on two paths, the first included laboratory analyzes to detect sugar nutrition, levels of exposure to heat, the diastene enzyme, and moisture content, while the second path focused on sensory evaluation of purity, taste, smell, and texture.

Al-Abyad attributed the distinction of the winning mangrove honey to its natural source. The rare extract extracted from the coastal mangrove forests on Tarut Island in Qatif Governorate.

He pointed out that the environmental diversity on the eastern coast, and the moderate maritime climate, contributed to the production of rich nectar that gives honey its unique characteristics and natural crystalline texture.

He pointed out that mangrove honey is a rare species, as all beekeepers can only produce it in specific places, because mangrove trees grow in an environment completely different from other trees, as they are quenched by seawater and derive food from the remains of small fish, shrimp, and marine organisms that grow in a fertile environment underneath.

Without pesticides

He added that the positive aspect of mangrove trees is that they do not need any pesticides or direct human intervention to live, which reflects positively on the honey produced from this “miracle tree.”

He stressed that these successive achievements enhance the confidence of global markets in national products, and open broader horizons for exporting Saudi honey that complies with the highest stringent international standards.

He pointed out that this coronation is in addition to a long record of awards, most notably first place in the Arab Beekeepers Union 2025 and London International 2025 competitions, in addition to advanced positions in the French International 2026 competitions and the UAE Liwa Festival 2024.

Al-Abyad sent a message to young beekeepers in the Eastern Province about the need to be patient and learn continuously, stressing the importance of giving priority to quality standards over quantity to ensure excellence. And competition in global markets.

He revealed the sector’s tendency to expand production processes and improve the technologies used, to ensure the continued honorable Saudi presence in international forums, dedicating this achievement to the nation.
