A codeshare partnership between Etihad Airways and Romania’s Tarom

ABU DHABI, 8 JUNE / WAM / Etihad Airways, with Tarom, the national carrier of the Republic of Romania, signed a codeshare agreement linking Etihad guests around the world to Romania and Eastern Europe, and also connecting travelers from Romania to Abu Dhabi, the headquarters of Etihad Airways and its gateway to its global network.

The agreement was signed during the Annual General Assembly of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Rio de Janeiro.

Under this partnership, Etihad Airways guests can book one ticket on Tarom flights from Bucharest to six cities in Romania: Baia Mare, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Oradea, Suceava, and Timisoara, in addition to four capitals in Eastern Europe: Belgrade, Budapest, Chisinau, and Sofia. Passengers coming from Romania can also reach Abu Dhabi from Bucharest via Etihad’s new service.

This agreement supports the launch of the new Etihad service between Abu Dhabi and Bucharest on December 17, 2026, which will enable guests to travel on a single ticket between Bucharest and other destinations within the Etihad network, with the ability to ship luggage to its final destination.

For guests traveling from Romania, the codeshare agreement opens new horizons for arriving in Abu Dhabi and discovering its attractions.

From Abu Dhabi, guests can continue their flights with Etihad to destinations in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Eric Dee, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, said: “TAROM strengthens Etihad’s presence in Eastern Europe. It is a well-established national airline with more than seven decades of European aviation experience and a strong airline network covering Romania and the surrounding region. The launch of this agreement allows us to enter a fast-growing market with real strength, before launching our own flights to Bucharest.”

For his part, Mircea Nicolae Couturus, Chief Commercial Officer at Tarom, said: “This agreement expands Tarom’s international reach, provides passengers with a new connection between Bucharest and Abu Dhabi, strengthens ties between Romania and the Middle East, supports the continued growth of our network, and encourages cultural and economic exchange between our two countries.”

With the addition of Tarom, Etihad Airways’ partner network now includes 47 airlines under codeshare agreements, and more than 130 partner airlines under flight connection agreements, which is the largest among non-alliance airlines, allowing travelers to access more than 350 destinations around the world with individual or all-inclusive tickets.
