The International Chess Federation selects the Emirati Abdullah Al-Mazmi as a member of the arbitration team for the World Cup chess matches.

Sharjah, June 8, 2018 (WAM) – The International Chess Federation has chosen Emirati international referee Abdullah Murad Al Mazmi as part of the arbitral team charged with managing the 2026 World Team Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship competitions, which will be hosted by Hong Kong during the period from 16 to 22 June, with the participation of an elite group of world champions and senior international masters, led by Magnus Carlsen, ranked first in the world.
Al-Mazmi’s selection comes as a culmination of his distinguished career in the field of arbitration and sports administration, as he holds the position of Chairman of the Referees’ Committee in the Arab Chess Federation. He also manages the Sharjah International Masters Championship, one of the most prominent global tournaments on the international chess agenda.
Abdullah Murad Al Mazmi expressed his pride in being chosen as one of the referees of the World Team Championship for Rapid and Blitz Chess, which is considered one of the most important tournaments in the world due to the participation of elite players, top-ranked players and world champions. He pointed out that this selection is a great responsibility before it is a personal honor and reflects the confidence that the International Federation gives to the Emirati referee and his ability to manage matches at the highest professional levels.
He said that this participation is an extension of the successes achieved by Emirati cadres in various sports fields, stressing the endeavor to provide the best possible performance and adherence to the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality in managing competitions. I also look forward to benefiting from this important experience and exchanging experiences with the most prominent international referees participating in the tournament in a way that contributes to developing the arbitration system and enhancing the UAE’s presence on the international chess arena.
He stressed that representing the UAE in a global event of this size is a great honor, expressing his hope that he will live up to expectations and present an honorable image that reflects the advanced level that the Emirati chess sport has reached and its arbitration and administrative competencies.
