Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center launches the Arabic version of the book "Shanghai" in "Beijing International Book"

BEIJING, June 18, 2017 (WAM) – During its participation in the 32nd session of the Beijing International Book Fair 2026, in which the UAE is the guest of honour, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center launched the Arabic version of the book “Shanghai… Six Thousand Years of a Civilization That Accommodates Everyone,” within the “Emirati House” pavilion at the exhibition held at the China National Convention Center in the capital, Beijing, from June 17 to 21.

Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center and Director of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the Center has built, over more than a decade, a strong relationship with the Chinese side in the fields of publishing, culture and translation, noting that its first participation in the Beijing Book Fair was in 2013 and has continued continuously and growing since then.

He added that this year’s participation is distinguished by the fact that it invests in the expertise and deep relations that have been built between Abu Dhabi and Beijing over the past years, pointing out that the center offers a diverse cultural program that includes the launch of the book “Shanghai” translated from Chinese to Arabic, in addition to the signing of a number of new agreements in the field of translation between the Arabic and Chinese languages, which will be announced in the coming days.

He pointed out that the UAE and the capital, Abu Dhabi, enjoy a special status with the Chinese side regarding cultural events and programs, stressing that this cooperation serves the Arab publishing industry and the translation movement and enhances the cultural atmosphere between the Arab and Chinese worlds.

He explained that the mutual participations between the Abu Dhabi and Beijing exhibitions witnessed a remarkable development. Abu Dhabi was a guest of honor at the Beijing Fair in 2018, while Chinese cultural institutions continued their active presence at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair on a large scale, which included events, programs, and the participation of prominent names of Chinese writers, novelists, and translators.

It is noteworthy that the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center has contributed over the past ten years to supporting the translation of more than a hundred books from Chinese into Arabic, and it also signed a cooperation protocol with the Chinese Media Group to support the joint translation and publishing movement.
