"American of Sharjah" Achieved its highest ranking ever in the ratings "QS" World Universities 2027
Sharjah, June 18 / WAM / The American University of Sharjah achieved its highest ranking ever in the QS World University Rankings, after coming in at 258th globally in the 2027 edition, advancing 14 places compared to the 2026 ranking.
This achievement places the university among the top 17% of universities ranked globally by the QS Foundation, and maintains its position among the top three universities in the UAE, within a classification that includes 1,504 academic institutions around the world.
The university confirmed that this progress reflects its upward march over the past years, as it moved from the category of the best 401-450 universities globally in 2013 to its current position among the best 260 universities in the world, supported by continuous improvement in key indicators that include the employability of graduates, research impact, academic reputation, and sustainability.
Dr. Todd Laursen, Chancellor of the American University of Sharjah, said that reaching the highest position achieved by the university in the QS World University Rankings reflects the continuous progress made by the institution and its commitment to academic excellence, and reflects the strength of its academic model and the impact of long-term investment in students, faculty members, and the research system.
He added that this year’s results were characterized by strong performance in the areas of graduate employability, research impact, sustainability and internationalization, which confirms the university’s success in preparing graduates capable of competing globally and producing research that contributes to confronting realistic challenges and supporting sustainable development.
In the field of graduate employment, the university’s graduates in the spring and summer semesters of 2024 recorded an employment rate of 95 percent within 12 months of graduation, which contributed to the university advancing 112 global positions in the employment outcomes index, ranking third in the country.
The university also ranked first in the country in the employer reputation index, which reflects employers’ confidence in its graduates and their excellence in the fields of engineering, design, business administration and science, in addition to the university’s success in building sustainable partnerships with various sectors.
In terms of scientific research, the university ranked third in the country in the research impact index after advancing 74 global centers, based on a research system that includes six research centers, 22 research groups, and 11 funded chairs and professorships, focusing on the fields of sustainability, manufacturing, health care, and creative industries, in addition to artificial intelligence, data science, robotics, advanced materials, and cultural heritage.
In the sustainability index, the university advanced 44 places globally, and ranked third in the country, as a result of integrating the principles of sustainability into education, scientific research, operational processes, and community initiatives.
The university also continued to strengthen its position as an international academic environment, as it ranked among the top five universities in the UAE in the indicators of the diversity of nationalities of faculty members and students, while its student community includes 103 nationalities, which reflects its position as a global university that contributes to promoting cross-cultural learning and consolidating the values of global citizenship.
